The Matrix could not have been a better movie. Still remember all the distinguished martial art moves and innovative plots? It drew all of us to a new level of movie appreciation. We could not stop ourselves wondering what will happen to Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and the rest of the Matrix world. Now that we know what had happened. I can't help using this excessively used word: Disappointment. The Matrix could not have started better. I could not quite believe how the Wachowski Brothers came up this amazing story (which could have been true). The action sequences defined a whole new dimension of its own. If you can still remember, the Matrix ended when Neo stopped bullets and destroyed Agent Smith. At the end he flew up into the sky. That was a perfect ending. In the second episode, the Matrix Reloaded, we were introduced to the Zion. The Zion, I assume, is a fake place. The story turned from being a philosophical assertion to a science fiction. Thanks to the computer visual effects programmers and martial arts directors, we got to enjoy some thrilling fight scenes and the ultimate highway chase scene. However, when a sequel goes wrong, it keeps going wrong. The science fiction kept its way perfectly as a science fiction. In the Matrix Revolution, the Matrix became something for people in Zion to solve. It was no longer related to real life. It was a science fiction with only visual effects. The attack of the sentinels was long and disturbing. The ending, Neo and Agent Smith's final showdown, looked like something taken from the Dragonball Z. The moves could no longer surprise us. They were able to keep the originality though. They also succeed in making the movie with their own Matrix identity. But this all summed up to a barely acceptable science fiction. The trilogy started as perfect as it could. It presented a good storyline that is directly related to me. I wondered whether I am really living in a matrix. I can't say it for everyone, but have you ever think of yourself living in a world that is not real, or your life is being controlled by someone? The second and third episodes put us into a world of its own (not ours). The story might have been still intriguing for some people. They tried to lead us to solve the puzzle of the Matrix. In my opinion, the Matrix Reloaded bombarded me with loads of unreal stuff. I got into discussions many time with my friends about who Frenchman is, or who the Keymaker and the architect is. Deeply think about it, it is just a sci-fi, a made-up story. Why did I spend time talking about some unreal story with no reasoning? I can't stop asking myself: what was the Wachowski brothers thinking! How did they turn something so good to something bad. If I have had the choice, I would choose to only see the first Matrix, and never see the second and third, better if I have never known of their existence. photo: www.thematrix.com 11/20/2003 |
